Claiming Back My Body

I have been a master of lending my body in the service of others – of allowing others to do what they need to do with it to survive. I have seen my body as something that is not just for me, but also for everyone – in a way that has been at the great expense of me.

I would never knowingly abuse another person, or allow another to be abused, but I have willingly accepted abuse from others, and have certainly abused myself.

I have done this in many ways: in my role as the ‘good daughter’, ‘always available lover’, ‘do-anything-for-you friend’, ‘24/7 mother’, ‘caring doctor’ and ‘devoted wife’.

Well, all that is about to change.

My body is not just a vessel for myself or others to use as they will and discard when they are done.

My body is not just flesh, blood and bone that will die with me.

My body is made of particles of the Universe – particles that have been here since the beginning of time. These particles came from the stars, and have made up many bodies before mine, and will be in many bodies hereafter.

I am the custodian of these particles, and the space they occupy in the universe. I am responsible for this space, and for what happens on it, around it, and within it.

Knowing this, changes everything. It makes life far less personal, and far more lovely and grand. It makes it easier to see the big picture, and the part that I play in it. It makes me stop and think before I do anything that may harm – me or anyone or anything else.

What sort of food will support this space in the universe?

What type of drink will I let flow through its vessels and into its every cell?

What kind of thoughts will I allow in here?

How will I move these particles that make me up?

Am I truly appreciating what I have been given here?

When I see myself in this way, I see myself as God. Not in a mad or grandiose way, but as a matter of fact. These particles come from God and are God. So I am God too. And so are you.

  1. ‘I am the custodian of these particles, and the space they occupy in the universe. I am responsible for this space, and for what happens on it, around it, and within it.’ This sentence changes everything, it changes the way I look at myself, the relationship I have with my body and the way I look and see others. It stops life being about me and makes life about everyone.

  2. The responsibility we have for our divine particles is huge and I am only just realising this. Our body may return to the earth but our divine particles are part of the greater universe and will flow into another being after I no longer walk this earth. This takes self responsibility to a whole new level. Great reflection, AM.

  3. “My body is made of particles of the Universe – particles that have been here since the beginning of time. These particles came from the stars, and have made up many bodies before mine, and will be in many bodies hereafter.” beautifully expressed AM, thank you for sharing the divinity and preciousness of who we truly are and where we come from and for deepening my appreciation and responsibility.

  4. ‘I am the custodian of these particles, and the space they occupy in the universe. I am responsible for this space, and for what happens on it, around it, and within it.’ This made me ponder once more do I really appreciate what is given to me?

  5. ‘My body is made of particles of the Universe – particles that have been here since the beginning of time.’ And as a body made of particles I can allow it to be controlled by a spirit that cares not, or, master such a spirit and say not to it’s demands. For abuse allowed by the spirit is just as bad as abuse by anyone else. It is to say no to any abuse from any one or any where. For these particles are worth more than that, they have Divinity within.

  6. It is so amazing to feel that through our bodies and the particles it is made of, we are an equal part of the universe, the grander whole, the One and of God. That said, makes me humble and understand that it is not about me but about this whole constellation I am part of and this fills me with joy and gives purpose and responsibility to my life, a responsibility to bring all of the divinity and love I am into the world in whatever I do or wherever I am and need to be.

  7. “I am the custodian of these particles, and the space they occupy in the universe”. Thank you AB a beautiful fact I am taking with me into the day.

  8. What I love about blogs like this is that they not only look at what food and drink you put into your body, they also explore how you are within your body – are you hard? are you racy? are you anxious? are you loving? how do you move within your body? etc… as they equally have an effect on the body.

  9. Since I first read your inspiring blog AM, I have been regularly pondering on the particles that make up this wonderful body that has supported me for so long, and slowly I have been begun to feel the lightness and the ancientness of these particles and the connection to all that there is, from within me, around me and on out into the Universe. And as I connect more to these particles I am coming to honour and love this body that I abused for years, a body that is responding to this deeper level of care, and is now holding me more steadily than it has ever done.

  10. Our body has to be so deeply cared for and treasured, because when we care for and treasure ourselves, all our particles are impacting the particles of this whole Universe. When we care for ourselves and love our body preciously, we are doing the same to everyone else. But we have mistaken that loving others we have to forget ourselves, even abuse it, in the big picture of the particles, that simply does not make sense. But I did not truly get this until my particles really screamed at me in a way that did not allow me to ignore them anymore, and no matter what, they just keep bringing me deeper to what is Love. I now choose to truly Love.

  11. When we look at it like this, that we are made up of particles of the Universe and ask how would we support that then it brings a whole new perspective to it all, and allows me to see that I am part of something huge and that the part we all play in that hugeness is unique.

  12. You have summed up our relationship with our body beautifully, we give it away to so many things which don’t support us but could choose differently if we knew how to make choices that come from self-love.

  13. Our bodies are such amazing things and for the most part we take them completely for granted and treat them in a way we should never treat our best friend. Because our body is so amazing and has stupendous abilities to heal itself no matter what we do to it or chuck into it, we abuse it and treat it in ways if we treated a child we would be locked up. When this leads to illness and disease we go to the “it just happened” card refusing to take any responsibility for our part in it. This is leading to a health meltdown of our species and the bankruptcy of all our health services.

  14. ‘I am the custodian of these particles, and the space they occupy in the universe. I am responsible for this space, and for what happens on it, around it, and within it’ This takes self responsibility to a whole new level: we are inextricable and magnificently linked to all others and how we treat our heavenly bodies affects the all. Understanding we are custodians of a sacred vessel supports us to change the relationship we have with our bodies.

  15. What a magnificent and true way to look at our bodies. It opens up the universe to us and lets us see that there is so much more to us than we have made life to be. There is purpose and there is logic in life, the world, the whole universe. Undeniably so.

  16. Am I truly appreciating what I have been given here? Love this question, and the others too, but this question I feel to ponder on and take into my day….. Thankyou AM for your divine expression.

  17. I too have been a master of lending my body to others….. this left me exhausted and drained. And when this is your ingrained pattern, it is very difficult to break free from, simply because you have no energy to change things, being constantly drained. I broke free from this prison when I met Serge Benhayon and spent 10 days participating in Sacred Esoteric Healing courses. I have changed, my life has changed, and I am no longer exhausted or drained as I have much more awareness of taking care of myself first.

  18. We are so much more than we think we are and through what you have presented here I can feel that universality is our natural way of being. Through our bodies we have access to untold wisdom that hold the truth of us all, and how we can live in harmony with the order of the universe that we all together are equally and inherently part of by virtue of the particles that make it possible for us to be here on earth.

  19. We are the custodians of a truly sacred vessel that can either be honoured for what it is, or prostituted for what it is not. Thankyou AM for this divine reminder that we are so much more heavenly than we play ourselves to be. I love your words. Responsibility has never looked so sexy.

  20. An awareness of God can be so simple… We can actually connect with our own bodies to the point where we can feel the interconnectedness with everything around us, where we lose that sense of separation that so drives people in their lives seeking here and there, where we feel an innate sense of harmony and connection that is reflected all-round within and without… This is really accessible to everyone… And yes it is simple.

  21. It’s like renting a house. We are provided with a space to live in by the universe and eventually we will give that space back, but do we take notice of the quality that will be passed on or do we sub-let our home to everything and anything and sleep outside?

  22. A great insight AM, through connection and in expanding our awareness we feel the grandest part of ourselves beyond the limits of our physical body and yet also the importance and responsibility of deeply caring for our body as the vehicle through which we express and reflect the grandness we are from.

  23. Being something for someone in the expense of our bodies is disregard and abuse to ourselves, how do we even make this choice when it is so clear that it does not support us? It must come from a lack of sensitivity for no baby would endure any sort of pain when it is so open, which then must come from a hardening we have first chosen to put up as protection, so the question then would be what is it that we are not wanting to feel and express?

  24. ‘My body is made of particles of the Universe – particles that have been here since the beginning of time. These particles came from the stars, and have made up many bodies before mine, and will be in many bodies hereafter.
I am the custodian of these particles, and the space they occupy in the universe. I am responsible for this space, and for what happens on it, around it, and within it.’ This is deeply beautiful Anne. Knowing that we are custodians only of those particles brings a deeper responsibility to really care for them and not use and abuse them, imagining that there are no real consequences.

  25. ‘When I see myself in this way, I see myself as God. Not in a mad or grandiose way, but as a matter of fact. These particles come from God and are God. So I am God too. And so are you.’
Very beautiful and true said. I always loved God in my heart so I deeply loved myself, but denied to life for so long.

  26. Handing over my body and my actions to the whims of everything and anything outside of me in the idea that this is what supporting others, is, has, and continues to blow up in my face. To put my body on the back burner for the sake of meeting a certain criteria, or because I have been told to by another, or I think this is what I should be doing, just doesn’t work. But when I put my body first and focus on its quality and how it feels to be even in the small details, that feeling is out of this world and then I don’t have to fuss or fret about how to be in life because when prepared my body just knows who, what, when, and where. We give ourselves away thinking that this is how we should, could, or have to work together, fit in or be liked or connected, but in actual fact it is the other way around, the more I connect to myself the more I connect to others and there is no need to give myself away, because there is more than enough to share without me feeling less or lacking, but in fact I grow from such experiences.

  27. This is a grand article, that deeply inspired me to take care of my body to the next level. I also have abused my body intensely with alcohol, the wrong food, drinks and by allowing negatives thoughts. Next to that I have picked up beliefs, ideals and put myself on mission-driven work paths. To name just the tip of the iceberg of abuse actions towards my body. I have done that not only this life, but many lives, it feels. The result is, that this body of God is still tainted with many things that don’t belong there. Thanks to Universal Medicine I now realize this and have chosen the path of removing all this debris that is still covering these shining brilliant particles, that can been seen and felt more and more.

  28. Thank you AM for a really great blog, one that inspires and awakens me to a greater sense of responsibility, that the particles that make up this body that I inhabit belong to the Universe therefore however I treat this body in every move I make reverberates throughout the Universe, with the greatness and simplicity of the greater whole of which I am a part.

  29. Considering to be part of the universe and a custodian of the particles that form my body feels amazing to live with. This to me being aware of this fact takes away any possibility to abuse my body as when I do live in accordance with the origin of the particles my body is made of I live in the divine rhythm the universe is.

    1. Nico, I love what you share here as there is a completely different flow in our bodies when we are moving and living with the universe rather than fighting against it.

  30. If we do everything for everyone else but never for ourselves, then what we do for others cannot be carried through with love to the extent it will be when we care deeply for ourselves first.

  31. We have a responsibility to the whole and that is what this article beautifully explores. Things get hard and life gets tough but we have to understand that no matter how many cakes we eat or movies we watch or nights out on the town that we have we cannot escape, we are hear to feel the undeniable fact that we are all connected and if you don’t want to feel it now, it does not mean that it is not going to keep knocking on the door to remind you, truth is eternal, as is love and as is god.

  32. A perfect, timely reminder for me this morning. I knew last night I overrode my body and stayed up to respond to emails – it was only 30 minutes or so, but still I could feel the impact, the betrayal almost. Here I am reminded – in true self-care, there really is no self. Thank you, AM.

    1. In true self-care, there really is no self – thank you Fumiyo. For ages I felt that I wasn’t able to work hard without being hard, and I felt drained at the end of each day. What I’m finding now is that it’s not about the amount of work I have to do but the way I relate to it and the quality that I do it in. I can change this simply by being more aware and more present, to choose to focus on the quality of what I’m doing and not the need to get it done. And it leaves me in a state where I’m ready to do the next thing afterwards, instead of needing to recover and needing some ‘me’ time.

  33. I realise when we hold the energy of connection, then move with this knowing we are reconfiguring our connective tissue to the Universality and aligning to the all. In contemplating this I feel an expansion beyond the limitations of the mind/ body to the infinite and unlimited state which is God in all.

  34. This is beautiful to reread again, thank you AM. When we understand life and our bodies like this we are naturally connected to the simplicity and yet enormity of the universe.

  35. Knowing this takes responsibility to a whole new level. The fact that we are custodians of the particles that make up our bodies, and will continue to make up bodies for many years to come. The realisation that these particles being from God, make us all equal parts of the universe and as a part of God, with this knowing, I choose to deepen my love for myself and humanity.

  36. What you shared about the particles that make us up, and us being the custodians of them, awakens the responsibility we possess to embrace all we are and what we are capable of… inspiring and supporting us to truly appreciate and live the extraordinariness of both ourselves and what we are a part of. Deeply, deeply inspiring.

  37. I love what you mention that we are custodians of all these divine particles that make up our bodies. It takes living our lives and everything we do to a far bigger level of responsibility. Not to make it heavy, it should be easy as essentially we know very well how to take care of things that are deeply precious and valuable.

  38. I had to ponder on this article. From understanding what I read in this article to deeply accepting that on a deeper level. That is work in progress, to make it our foundation to not only know intellectually but be deeply aware that we are part of the Universe, that we are part of God. This takes us away from making our lives about us.

  39. “I am the custodian of these particles, and the space they occupy in the universe. I am responsible for this space, and for what happens on it, around it, and within it.” This brings for me another level of understanding of the responsibility we have for how we treat our bodies when we appreciate that our particles are a part of the all.

  40. Wow this is a blog to print out and have on the fridge or by the bed, to go to bed to and wake up to. Feeling my particles now. Thank you.

  41. I too am “claiming back my body”, a lot later than I could have, but for most of my life I simply didn’t allow myself to see and treat it as the preciously divine vessel that it is. The abuse I heaped on it and the abuse I allowed from others has now left me with a body that is needing to be lovingly rebuilt, needing the years of disregard healed, but I can feel that it is delighted that I finally have made the choice to love and respect it as it has always deserved.
