The Way of the Livingness: Understanding True Religion

The only time I was placed in the spotlight of religion was when I was at school and had to take a class on RE – Religious Education. Even then I would either play truant or mess about in class with friends.

So, having grown up with no experience of religion I had no frame of reference as to what was good or bad; I never had any time for religion itself as it never made sense to me and I always felt it wasn’t the truth. And then there was God, the man in the sky with the big white beard. What was he all about?

My Guide

Throughout my life I looked to others for inspiration, or to be my guide. They included teachers, work colleagues, sport coaches, team-mates, self-help dudes and the myriad of ‘successful’ people I read stories about.

While I enjoyed their stories or accomplishments, little they said or did really rubbed off on me.

In early 2007 I listened to a presentation by Serge Benhayon and there was enough in what he said to intrigue me to go back again. I liked how Serge spoke in an assured yet humble manner. He was totally different to any of my previous role models.   Continue reading “My Guide” →

Garbage, Toilets and Cars – My Normal, My Religion

GARBAGE

I clearly remember when, as a kid, I made a decision not to throw any rubbish on the streets. It feels surreal for me to even mention it today, but when I was a kid the streets in Brazil were very dirty and it just seemed ‘normal’.

I realised that if there were things I didn’t like in this world, I had a responsibility to not contribute to them. I also remember that once I made that decision, I found my first obstacle – very often I could not find bins – but that didn’t stop me. I was so firm in my decision that I would carry garbage in my pockets, bag, or wrap an apple core in  paper or plastic until I could find a bin – this became ‘my normal’.   Continue reading “Garbage, Toilets and Cars – My Normal, My Religion” →
